Born in South Dakota, Bruce R. Cordell earned a degree in Environmental,
Population, and Organismic Biology from the University of Colorado. While
working as a Research Associate in the biopharmaceutical industry, he learned to
synthesize DNA and a host of other exciting scientific methods.
But always, he had to contend with the siren song of game design and writing.
Could science, with its many blind alleys, compete?
In 1995, after a few years as a freelancer and design contributor of an online
text-generated virtual world (the Tolkien-inspired Elendor MUSH), he abandoned
science for a design position with TSR, now Wizards of the Coast. His many
design credits include the Expanded Psionics Handbook, the Sunless
Citadel, and the Epic Level Handbook. He won the Origins Award for
Return to the Tomb of Horrors, and Ennies for Mindscapes,
If Thoughts Could Kill, and his work on the Manual of the Planes.
Bruce wrote Oath of Nerull (under the house name of T. H. Lain),
Lady of Poison, and the short story "Hollows of the Heart"
that appears in Children of the Rune.
Bruce lives in Seattle, WA, with his wife Dee (and their dog and six cats). In
addition to writing books and games, he enjoys authoring multimedia projects on
his Macintosh powerbook, rollerblading, kickboxing, preaching to the converted
about his progressive politics and "smart" dietary habits, and reading
like a fiend.
