Were it not for an inattentive elderly driver crashing into his car at an intersection, Drew Karpyshyn might very well still be working as a loans officer or investment advisor in his local credit union. Left with no vehicle with which to commute, a fistful of insurance money, and the unconditional support of his wife Jennifer, Drew seized the opportunity to leave the financial industry and resume his on again/off again relationship with post-secondary education. After two years of schooling, one B.A. in fine arts, one humbling defeat on the TV show Jeopardy, and half a masters' degree in English, Drew found himself once more back in the work world, this time as a writer/designer for the computer game developer BioWare. Since joining BioWare in the spring of 2000, Drew has worked on such landmark games as Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Throne of Bhaal, and the CRPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (scheduled for release in 2002). He has also found the time to pen two novels for Wizards of the Coast: Temple Hill and Throne of Bhaal (a novelization of the similarly titled game). Drew now lives in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, with his wife Jennifer and their cat, Roxy (whom they do not treat as their child, because that's just sad). When not typing in front of a computer screen, Drew can likely be found on one of the many golf courses in the nearby vicinity. Having achieved his life-long dream of becoming a published writer, Drew has set his sights on his next great goal -- to play on the PGA tour. However, this will entail a near miraculous improvement in Drew's golf game... or a spectacular regression in the talent level of the pros.
